Who is the Centre for?

The Centre was set up by Age Concern Bracknell Forest to provide a service for elderly people who are mentally confused and living within the Bracknell Forest Borough Council area.

What do we provide?

Our task is to care for the elderly in a friendly atmosphere and to stimulate them in homely surroundings.

Whilst recognising their special needs we place great importance in respecting our clients as individuals.

Our aim is for them to feel comfortable and at ease: the Age Concern Day Centre is in a bright and modern building, purpose built to allow the elderly the freedom that they would expect in their own homes.

There is also a very pleasant, small enclosed garden which is well used by our clients in the warmer months.

Activities

We provide stimulation through the opportunity to socialise with others and through a variety of activities such as:

Participation in activities is entirely the choice of our clients and we respect their right to choose how to spend their time.

Specialist Services

Specialist services are provided according to individual client's needs.

A regular toe nail cutting service is available at the Centre. A bath nurse attends the centre when required and visits can be arranged for a doctor. A hairdresser attends the Centre twice weekly.

Details of the Day

Our clients are taken to and from the Centre by their carers or in our Centre ambulance, which will pick them up from their own homes.

On arrival, from 10am, they are welcomed with tea and biscuits. A cooked lunch is provided and hot drinks are available throughout the day.

Clients are taken home from 3.00pm onwards.

Our Staff

The Centre Manager has been working with the elderly for many years. She works with her assistant, staff and a team of volunteers all of whom are experienced and sympathetic to the needs of our clients.

Carers

Our aim is also to offer support and periods of respite to carers and relatives in their twenty-four hour task and we understand the problems they face.

Our manager likes to maintain ongoing contact with carers and is happy to discuss any concerns they may have.

Our Role in the Community

Through providing a ‘Home from Home’ for our clients, we help to enable them to continue to live on their own or with their families and carers in the community.

We work in partnership with all professional services, such as Social Services and GP Surgeries, to ensure the well-being of our clients.

Sources of Referral

Sources of referral include GPs, Community Psychiatric Nurses, Social Services and the local Health Authority.

We also welcome carers and families to contact the centre manager directly if they are caring for an elderly person whom they feel would benefit from attendance at the Day Centre.

Attendance

The Day Centre is open from Monday to Friday. The number of days per week attended depends on the circumstances of each individual and on the availability of places: we can care for twenty clients per day.

A small fee is charged on a daily basis. Age Concern strives to minimise the cost to the client whilst maintaining an excellent service.
